about

Church life is undergoing significant development following a recent "visioning exercise". We see, by the grace of God, all members of the church working towards:

A church reaching out and open to the community

A welcoming and all-age church

A communicating church

A healing church

St Michael's offers a range of traditional and modern services. Our main Sunday service is Holy Communion, except for once a month when we gather with the members of our many associated groups for a lively service of Family Praise.

The groups and activities within our church include:

•

Nursery Praise, for parents and pre-school children, meeting once a month

•

Junior Praise on Sundays

•

Confirmation, Lent, prayer and discussion groups

•

Church youth group, meeting twice a month on Sunday evenings

•

A full range of associated uniformed girls' and boys' youth groups, from Rainbows and Beavers to Venture Scouts

•

A thriving Mothers' Union branch, welcoming all women - mums or not

•

Bell Ringers

St Michael's has a strong choral tradition with a choir, a music group (playing a wide range of church music) and the Friends of St Michael's Choir, open to all people who wish to support the continuing development of music in our Parish Church. There are also close pastoral and choral links with St Michael's CE School.

Regular church events include:

•

Fellowship coffee mornings

•

A Flower Festival and Patronal Lunch, both in early autumn

•

Annual Fair and occasional auctions

•

Evening socials in the Church Hall and private homes

•

A series of joint visits with the Mid-Trent Historical Association

•

Parish visits to Iona and Taize, which are being planned over the next five years

The Greenhill is one of the earliest Christian sites in Britain; a likely retreat for St Chad, home to a 7-acre churchyard and setting for a beautiful gothic church with a spire that looks over the city. The church houses the memorial to the parents of Lichfield's most famous son, Samuel Johnson, and the churchyard contains memorials to the family of the poet, Philip Larkin.
